MOUNT VERNON — It took one home game for the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets to turn the season around.
Senior Riley Swanson scored 20 points and junior Eric Ashbrook added 15 in the Jackets’ 60-45 win over rival Delaware Hayes in Ohio Capital Conference action on Friday.
It wasn’t that close.
The Jackets (1-2, 1-1 OCC) fed off the energy brought on by the enthusiastic crowd that nearly filled the home gym to capacity.
“It’s nice to be home,” said Mount Vernon head coach Kurt Kaufman. “It’s tough to start on the road against two really good teams.”
After spotting the Pacers the first four points, Mount Vernon went on a 21-6 run that spanned over a quarter. The Yellow Jackets were aggressive, attacking the basket from all sides and scoring on layups. Their frequent inside looks allowed the Jackets to hit 55 percent of their total shots (22 for 40).
