DANVILLE — Even the fans in this one went home exhausted.

The Danville and East Knox boys basketball teams went toe-to-toe all night long Tuesday, even spilling a little blood, before Devils’ junior Bryce Staats stuck a dagger in the heart of the Bulldog faithful.

Staats nailed a long three-point attempt at the buzzer to send Danville to a 54-52 victory in a wild and crazy Mid-Buckeye Conference matchup at Danville.

“This says a lot about the kids. They never quit,” said Danville coach Doug Selvey. “It was good to see them keep fighting. When (Staats) released it, I said, ‘oh my gosh, it’s going in.’”

“It’s hard for the kids when that happens,” said East Knox coach Don McDaniel. “The kids did everything we asked them to do. That’s why this is so hard.”

It was a wild affair from the opening tip as neither team led by more than five points. But, for the fans, players and coaches, the final minute took forever.
