DANVILLE — Utica dialed up the defense Friday.
The Redskins used an active 1-3-1 zone defense to shut down Danville in the second half and pull away for a 49-30 victory in Mid-Buckeye Conference action at Danville.
“What carried us tonight was our defense,” said Utica coach Brian Radabaugh. “We limited their second chances and got some steals which made it easier offensively with the transition.”
“Their 1-3-1 killed us,” said Danville coach Doug Selvey. “I did not put us in the position we needed to be to be successful.”
Utica (9-5 overall, 7-3 MBC) led by just three points at halftime, but turned up the defensive pressure in the second half to pull away. Danville (6-6, 2-6) managed just five points in the third quarter as the Redskin lead grew to 14 points (36-22).
The Redskins were able to get several baskets off transition and rode the hot shooting of Broc Stradley to open up the lead.
