HOWARD — It was a Devil-Dog classic that fans will remember for some time to come.
On a night when the East Knox Bulldogs (0-16, 0-11 MBC) were honoring seniors Cole Forshey and Matt McDaniel, they nearly captured their first win of the season — against their archrival, no less.
In the end, however, the Danville Blue Devils (7-7, 3-7 MBC) went on a fourth-quarter run to escape with a hard-fought 56-51 win in Mid-Buckeye Conference boys basketball action on Friday.
At first, things didn’t look good for Danville, who found themselves down quickly, 8-0. East Knox did it with scrappy defense, strong rebounding and deadly accurate shooting.
“I’ll give them credit,” said Danville point guard Bryce Staats (15 points). “They were playing some good defense and we weren’t taking great shots.”
“It just comes down to basic basketball,” said East Knox coach Don McDaniel. “When you make a shot, you get more energy and we were making shots in the first half.”
With six minutes to go in the first half, the Bulldogs still maintained their advantage when David Judson landed a 3-pointer to make it 16-8.
