WESTERVILLE — Third time was not the charm for the Centerburg Trojans.
The Fredericktown boys basketball team had its way with Centerburg early in their sectional semifinal showdown, turning a quick start into a 39-26 victory at Westerville North High School to advance in the Division III Central District tournament.
The Trojans knew what they had to do to stop Fredericktown (16-5). After all, they’d played twice before. Both times, the Freddies came out victorius.
Ryan Logan made sure their third matchup was no different.
The Fredericktown junior came out of the gate red hot, scoring 14 points in the first period, including three 3-pointers as well as a one-handed dunk off a steal.
Logan ended the game with a team-high 26 points, seven rebounds, five steals and five blocks.
“I was feeling it,” said Logan. “I shot it once, it went in, so I was just feeling it and just kept putting it in.”
“(Logan) is a good player, so we knew that was going to happen,” said Centerburg head coach John Marhefka. “You have to do the best you can with them.”
“Ryan ultimately has to have big numbers for us to succeed,” said Fredericktown head coach Mark DeLaney. “Give credit to their coaching staff. ... I thought they did a nice job in shutting him down (after the first period).”
