GAHANNA — The weather and the track weren’t the only things hot on Saturday at Gahanna.
Knox County teams showed their track muscle in the Division III District finals, as 12 individuals and seven relay teams all advanced to regional competition.
The sprinters from Danville and East Knox were in top form Saturday, as were the longer distance runners from Centerburg and Fredericktown.
The East Knox boys’ sprint relay teams both captured top honors at district, while Fredericktown’s Emily Roberts won the longest race of the day, the 3,200-meter run.
Roberts led from the opening gun, lapping several other individuals and running away with the district title in a time of 11:46.27.
“I think I came back from a disappointing mile. I guess God has a plan for me to run the 3,200 well,” said Roberts.
The 3,200 can be a lonely race, especially when you pull away from the pack after the first of eight laps. But, Roberts has found a way to keep her pace and continue on around the track.
