MOUNT VERNON — Area junior golfers had the perfect conditions for a tournament Wednesday. Nice weather, a gentle breeze and a golf course in good shape led to some low scores from the 26 golfers in the Hiawatha Junior Golf tournament at Hiawatha Golf Course.

Mount Vernon sophomore-to-be Robert Williams took advantage of those ripe conditions to blister Hiawatha for a 1-over-par 73 and win the 13-to-15-year age bracket in the tournament. He shot 37-36 and his score was also the best overall by a large margin.
