COLUMBUS — Turnovers were a key factor in Fredericktown’s win over Highland in Week 1. On Friday, however, the Freddies own turnovers cost them at least two touchdowns in a 49-14 nonconference loss to Bishop Ready.
Fredericktown (1-1) were unable to mount much of a rushing attack against the Silver Knights defense, gaining just 46 yards on 29 carries. QB Austin Hathaway completed 16-of-31 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown, but also threw three interceptions. The Freddies had four turnovers in the game. Ready (2-0), meanwhile, gained over five yards per carry (39-for-211) and completed eight passes for 164 yards.
A scoreless first quarter was broken by Fredericktown’s first touchdown, a 10-yard pass from Hathaway to Chris Hoar with 1:15 left in the period for a 7-0 lead. The Silver Knights next drive finished at the 9:16 mark of the second quarter with Matt Yoho’s TD toss to Anthony Havens to tie the game. The Freddies gave up an interception on its next drive, leading to Doug Strickler’s 11-yard touchdown run with 8:13 to play.
