GALION — Despite last week’s 49-35 victory over Crestline, Northmor was still winless last season, and Highland proved that the Knights still had a long way to go by beating them 49-0 on Friday.
The Scots (1-1, 1-0) relied on its running game almost exclusively, and produced two 100-yard rushers. Shawn Beltz tore up the turf for 158 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries, and average of nearly 20 yards per run, and Kyle Minyo added 103 yards and two scores on his eight carries. Altogether, Highland ground out 389 rushing yards on 45 carries, and did not punt once.
On defense, the Scots shone just as brightly, limiting Northmor (1-1, 0-1) to 115 yards on 44 carries (2.6 ypc), and just 1-of-9 passing for 32 yards. They held the Knights to 0-of-12 in third-down efficiency, forced seven punts and picked off two passes.
