GRANVILLE — Granville played great on both sides of the ball on Friday night in shutting out visiting Utica, 41-0.
The Blue Aces (2-0) had five times the total offense that the Redskins (1-1) had, gaining 525 yards to just 103 for Utica. Granville rushed for 202 yards, and All-Ohio QB Dave Fraley completed 13-of-20 passes for 298 yards, part of its total of 323 passing yards.
As impressive as the offense was, the defense played just as strongly. It allowed the Redskins only four first downs for the game, 73 rushing yards on 29 carries and 5-of-20 passing for 30 yards. The Blue Aces forced eight punts and a pair of turnovers.
Granville started its scoring less than two minutes after the opening kick, as Noah Hosak ran in from 8 yards for a 7-0 lead. The Blue Aces had the ball late in the first quarter when Fraley completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Brock Hill, and the score was 14-0.
The second quarter featured Fraley and his long-range passing game. With the ball inside Utica territory, Fraley hooked up with A.J. Halderman for a 37-yard TD pass with 8:45 to play, which increased the lead to 21-0. Granville drove just inside the Redskin 50 with under two minutes to play, and with 1:12 on the clock Fraley found Halderman again, this time from 42 yards, and took a 28-0 lead into halftime.2012 High School Football
