FREDERICKTOWN — Fans of the Fredericktown Freddies tend to describe the high school volleyball team in one word: Improving.
If that’s the case, the team has come a long way already.
The Freddies made short work of the Mount Gilead Indians on Monday, sweeping them 25-6, 25-12, 25-15 in a nonconference showdown at home.
“We’re improving every game and working together as a team,” said Fredericktown head coach Dawn Toombs. “We’re moving in the right direction.”
Fredericktown saw the most excitement during Cassie Simpson’s serves. The senior has her own unique style, which she uses frequently — when she wants to send it over with some velocity.
Simpson ended with a team-high 13 aces. Seven came in the first set, which was so one-sided it lasted only a few minutes. Four aces came on a 7-0 run in the second set.
