DANVILLE — The undefeated Centerburg Trojans volleyball team (8-0, 5-0 Mid-Buckeye Conference) rolled through Danville like a well-oiled machine on Tuesday evening, gaining a sweep against the much-improved Blue Devils, 25-16, 25-21, 25-14.
Centerburg setter Kendall Compton took control of her team once again. The area’s top setter notched 21 assists for the match. Going into the match, she and her teammates weren’t quite sure what to expect from the Blue Devils.
“We hadn’t seen Danville for a year,” said Compton. “We didn’t know how they would be playing. We hadn’t heard anything about them. We just knew we had to bring our ‘A’ game, just like any other game. We just have to play together.”
Mikaela Weldy and Lindsey Daniels had nine points for the Trojans. Teammates Tristen Simpson and Stacy Fielding had eight apiece.
“I thought we did a really good job on offense,” said Fielding. “We had a lot of fast balls. Our sets were good, our passes were good.”
“I think we did a very good job of executing everything,” said Centerburg’s Kayley Jayjohn. “I thought we passed really well.”
After cruising to victory in Set 1, the Trojans had a 24-17 lead in the second set until they lost sevice.
