HOWARD — The final round of the Mid-Buckeye Conference golf championship at Apple Valley Golf Club saw mild temperatures, slight wind and a lot of high scores.
The Johnstown Johnnies (331) came away as four-stroke victors in the final round, with Northridge (335) finishing second. Due to the Vikings and the Johnnies finishing one-two, respectively, in the first tournament, the two teams share the MBC title.
Utica (362) finished third, just ahead of Centerburg (368). Danville (385) came in fifth, with Loudonville (398) finishing sixth.
Johnstown’s John Carlisle and Northridge’s Jacob Eckhardt were co-medalists, finishing at 4-over 76. The next closest score was 80, brought in by Northridge’s Matt Simmons.
“I was keeping it consistent,” said Eckhardt. “My drives were straight. I was hitting my irons well. The only strokes I lost were in my putting game.”
Danville senior Nate Zeune tied for the best score among local golfers with a 13-over 85. Zeune had trouble on a few holes, but kept an even score through the back nine. On the front nine, Zeune hit the ball well but got in a few bad situations.
“On the back nine, I let everything go and loosened up my swing. I hit the ball a lot better,” said Zeune. “On No. 5, there are some barn stones surrounding the green, and I was in-between two of them. I tried to hit out of that, and you can’t.”
