DANVILLE — The second week of Mid-Buckeye Conference play already has area football teams fighting for the top spot in their race for the league title. Friday’s game of the week which matches up the host Danville Blue Devils and the visiting Fredericktown Freddies may go a long way in deciding who takes league bragging rights for 2012.
Both teams enter this week’s contest with a 3-1 record and both in position for the postseason playoffs. The Blue Devils’ lone non-conference loss was a 21-7 setback to Zanesville Rosecrans, which sits in second place, one spot ahead of the Devils in the Division IV, Region 23 standings. The Freddies were defeated, 49-14, in Week 2 by an undefeated Bishop Ready team which is currently second in Division IV, Region 14, while the Freddies find themselves seventh in Division V, Region 19.
The Devils and Freddies stack up rather comparably in terms of offense. In their three victories thus far, Fredericktown has scored 103 points to Danville’s 101. The Devils have been more stingy on defense, allowing just 27 points in those wins while the Freddies have surrendered 76.
