FREDERICKTOWN — The host Fredericktown boys cross country team, without a Top 10 individual finisher, managed to take first place as a team in the 2012 Denny Stevens Invitational at the Kokosing reservoir on a damp and dreary Tuesday afternoon.
The Fredericktown girls — the top team in their race — finished fourth.
The rain held off long enough for the Freddies’ marching band to perform some pre-race entertainment, at which point the rain manifested as on-again, off-again light drizzle throughout the race.
“This weather is pretty typical for us,” said Fredericktown coach Bob Geiger. “Our kids love it. They don’t mind running in the rain and the mud.”
Caleb Carter (17:33.4) led the charge for the Freddie boys, finishing 11th. Right behind him was Colin Roddy (12th, 17:45.9.) Freddies freshman Bailey Gannon (18:06.5) and senior Seth Bennett (18:11.6) finished 20th and 21st, respectively. Austin Divelbiss (27th, 18:21.0) rounded out the scoring for the Freddies.
