CENTERBURG — On a night when senior Tristen Simpson was honored for a high school volleyball milestone, the Centerburg Trojans remained undefeated in Mid-Buckeye Conference volleyball, sweeping the visiting Danville Blue Devils, 25-8, 25-13, 25-16.
Simpson had eclipsed the 1,000-kill mark last week. Before the match, she was presented with the ball with which she had set the mark.
“I know that I would not have gotten this honor without my team and the teammates that I have had in the past and have graduated,” said Simpson. “Kendall (Compton) is an amazing setter and, without her, there’s no way I would get those sets. Without Courtney (Canter’s) great passes, I wouldn’t be able to get the sets that Kendall has. The honor is definitely for the whole team.”
Compton led the way with 30 assists. Simpson added 13 kills. With the win, Centerburg clinches at least a tie for the Mid-Buckeye Conference title.
“We were surprised that (Danville) didn’t come out a little stronger,” said Centerburg coach Ed Marsman. “We don’t take anybody for granted. (Danville) puts six people on the other end of the floor and they’re all players — especially with so many kids playing club nowadays.”
