SPARTA — The Highland Scots volleyball team was looking to get a measure of revenge against divisional rival Elgin on Tuesday but fell a bit short.
The Elgin Rockets (18-2, 12-1 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference) came from behind twice to defeat the host Scots in their MOAC volleyball duel, 19-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 15-12.
For the Scots, who put on a valiant performance, it was just one too many hitters to defend against.
“We fought and fought all the way through,” said Highland coach Rob Terrill. “They won the league and we wanted to show them that we should have been right there with them.”
The Scots (11-10, 7-5 MOAC) were a different team with hitter Heather Thacker back in the lineup. The senior, who was out most of the season with a torn ACL, has been back for a week. Her presence was missed in her team’s initial meeting with Red Division champion Elgin.
