But, despite a 6-0 shellacking from New Albany at home Tuesday, Mount Vernon head coach Emanuel Kladias believes there’s reason to hope.

“I saw, for at least the first 15 to 20 minutes, the girls really wanted to turn things around,” said Mount Vernon head coach Emanuel Kladias, whose team just came off a rough four-game road stretch. “It didn’t happen, but they’ll be ready for Thursday’s game. They’re definitely getting stronger.”

Indeed, Mount Vernon (4-9-2) came out on fire on Tuesday, playing hard against the Ohio Capital Conference leader. The Jackets played solid defense and created scoring chances — though few chances led to shots on goal.

By the time Mount Vernon finally took a shot on goal — on a free kick by Chelsie Hayes in the 26th minute — the Eagles had already scored twice.
