MOUNT VERNON — After swallowing a tough pill in a 27-14 loss to Big Walnut last week, the Mount Vernon football team won’t have to look far for a reason to get back on the saddle — archrival Delaware is on tap this Friday. The Yellow Jackets travel to Delaware for an Ohio Capital Conference matchup with the Pacers at 7:30 p.m.
“We’ve moved on. We’ve got to get ready for Delaware. It’s a big game, a big rivalry,” said Mount Vernon coach Anthony Naples. “I don’t know if they are alright with how it went (the loss to Big Walnut). But, they understand that one game like that can’t dictate the end of the world with us. The kids don’t want it to happen again. They’re evaluating things so it doesn’t happen again. They’ve got to move on. I think we’ve impressed that upon them. Hopefully, you can see that Friday night.”
The Pacers (1-6, 0-4 OCC) don’t bring the best record to the contest, but they have put up some points offensively, averaging nearly 20 points a contest.
Senior quarterback Alex Rafield leads the way for the Pacers. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound senior has thrown for 1,306 yards so far this season. His favorite target, especially lately, is Jante Wright, who has caught 27 passes for 300 yards, including 15 catches for 170 yards in the last two games.
