MOUNT VERNON — It was a night to honor the seniors. But it took a total team effort for the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets to come away with a victory on Senior Night.
The Yellow Jackets took control when they needed to throughout Thursday’s match to defeat New Albany, 27-25, 25-27, 25-17, 25-21.
With the victory, Mount Vernon finished second in the Ohio Capital Conference with an 11-3 mark, tied with Olentangy and two games behind Big Walnut.
Before the varsity game, the team honored its three seniors: Katie Arden, Lauren Hauberg and Melissa Hall. All three played different roles with the Jackets in 2012.
“The seniors don’t all play a whole lot, but they’re very well liked,” said Mount Vernon head coach Alan Cassell. “They’re good supporters of the team. It’s pretty emotional for the other players. ... They’re very close and very supportive of each other.”
“We’ve been together every day,” said Arden. “We act as a family, so we know how to work with each other.”
