FREDERICKTOWN—Tyler Ruhl had 145 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the host Fredericktown Freddies (5-4, 3-3 MBC) on Friday.
That along with a superb defensive effort was enough to defeat the Centerburg Trojans, 27-13, in a soggy Mid-Buckeye Conference matchup on Friday.
It was a night of bad breaks for the Trojans (4-5, 2-4 MBC) and it started on the third play of the game. From his own 32, Centerburg quarterback Tyler Stoyle ran the ball into the open, heading all the way to just shy of the goal line when the ball was jarred loose. Fredericktown recovered the ball in the endzone.
Despite that, Centerburg did manage to put the first points of the game on the board on a 43-yard pass from Stoyle to Jeremy Sesma (two receptions, 44 yards) to go up, 7-0.
On the Freddies’ second play from scrimmage, running back Tyler Ruhl carried the ball 54 yards for the touchdown. Ruhl had nine rushes for 76 yards in the first half.
Late in the first quarter, Fredericktown struck again. From the Centerburg 24, quarterback Austin Hathaway found receiver Curtis Carpenter (two receptions, 58 yards) with a 22-yard pass. Ruhl ran it in from the Trojans’ 2-yard line to give Fredericktown a 14-7 lead.
As more rain fell and playing conditions got worse, it got more difficult for the Trojans to mount a passing attack.
