JOHNSTOWN — Johnstown’s dominant first half gave the impression that Friday’s game would be a blowout, but East Knox came back with 21 second-half points to make it close at the end, despite losing 31-21.
The Johnnies (7-2, 5-1) did not attempt a pass in the rainy conditions, but ran 68 times for 282 yards. By contrast, the Bulldogs (5-4, 3-3) ran 37 plays, including 25 rushes for 99 yards. QB Cody Howard completed only 2-of-12 passes for 17 yards and threw two interceptions, but East Knox recovered a pair of fumbles from Johnstown. Penalties were a problem for both squads, with the Bulldogs committing nine for 56 yards and the Johnnies 11 for 91 yards.
Johnstown got the opening kick, and put together an 11-play drive to score. Adam Carter ran in from 11 yards out for a 7-0 lead with 5:24 to play. A botched snap on East Knox’s first punt attempt gave the Johnnies the ball at the Bulldog 2, and two plays later Carter punched in a 2-yard TD for a 14-0 lead.
