MOUNT VERNON — When the high school golf season panned out, it was Faithe Carr who stood as the lone competitor in the state tournament.
Carr was named All-Area Golfer of the Year by the sports writers and editors of the Mount Vernon News.
The 2012 season saw a number of firsts for Carr. It was her first appearance at state. It was the first time her team came this close to an appearance at state. And, for the News, it’s the first time a girl was named Golfer of the Year.
Carr took to the Gray Course at The Ohio State University and finished with a total score of 195 over two rounds.
All-Area First Team golfers include Robert Williams, whose 77 helped lead the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets to an appearance at the district tournament; Nate Zeune, the outstanding golfer for Danville; Broc Stradley, who represented Utica in the Division II district tournament; and Danni LeChard, who was one of the most consistent golfers on the Centerburg girls team.
Honorable Mention awards go to Centerburg’s Ian Jensen, Danville’s Dakota Caynor, Mount Vernon’s Chase Springer and Utica’s Jacob Daubenmire.
For leading Centerburg’s girls team to new heights, Shelly Byrley is our All-Area Golf Coach of the Year.
