FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown Freddies haven’t dominated defensively like this in a long time.
The Lexington Minutemen shot just 10 percent (3-for-30) from the field Thursday, allowing the Freddies to handily run away with a 42-11 victory at home.
“We want to be one of the best defensive teams around,” said Fredericktown head coach Wes Elifritz. “Our goal is to hold teams to 35 points or less.”
Mission accomplished, so far. Fredericktown (3-0) has allowed 25.3 points and nine field goals per game this season.
That average was certainly helped Thursday, as the Freddies forced Lexington (0-3) into a scoreless streak that lasted over 26 minutes. Gabrielle Adams hit an outside jumper midway through the second period, then Shelbie May hit one of two free-throw attempts on Lexington’s next possession.
It would be the team’s last points until the 3:00 mark in the fourth period.
