DANVILLE — Danville’s Bri Staats led all scorers with 17 points in a losing effort as her Blue Devils (3-3) lost a defensive battle against the visiting River View Black Bears, 45-33, in girls non-conference basketball on Thursday.
All eyes were on River View’s Andi Daugherty, who was coming off a 40-point effort against Utica on Wednesday. The Blue Devils, however, possessed the strength to deal with the Bears’ inside game. Danville’s Madison Banbury and Taylor Banbury crowded out Daugherty, often double-teaming her and holding her first-half scoring to a pair of buckets near the end of the half. She would score 11 for the game.
“I thought we did a really good job on her,” said Danville coach Shane Henry. “Defensively, we were pretty solid. Everybody talked and communicated.”
