The Bulldogs got off on the right foot, taking an 11-3 lead when Jade Burwell (nine points) hit a bucket and then landed a 3-pointer with about 1:30 to go in the first quarter.

“We got out a little slow to start,” said Centerburg coach Todd Nauman. “(East Knox) established control before we did in the first quarter.”

The Trojans struck back. First, Mikaela Weldy (six points) got a putback on a missed basket by teammate Faithe Carr (four points, three assists). Lindsey Daniels (11 points) scored on the Trojans’ next possession to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 11-7.

Centerburg’s Madi Gregory (four points) came into the game and hit a jumper with 15 seconds left in the first quarter. She then opened the second quarter with a pair of free throws to tie the game up at 11.

“We fought back and we got a nice plus with Madi Gregory coming in on the first substitution,” said Nauman. “She scored four points in the first half, which is big.”

East Knox came right back with another score from Burwell, a 3-point play from Danielle Totten (nine points) and a pair of Kali Krownapple (11 points, six rebounds) free throws to take back the lead, 18-11.
