DANVILLE — After slugging it out with Centerburg for 27 minutes, the Danville boys basketball team turned to one of its unsung heroes Friday.
Jordan Frank stepped up with two big plays to key a Danville run midway through the fourth quarter that allowed the Blue Devils to escape with a 47-41 Mid-Buckeye Conference victory over the visiting Trojans.
Trailing most of the game, Centerburg (4-6 overall, 2-3 MBC) took its first lead of the game midway through the fourth quarter. But, Frank picked the pocket of Trojan guard Tyler Stoyle and went in for a layup to give Danville back the lead, then came through with a nice assist on a basket by Austin Hazen that helped spark the Devils to the victory.
“I thought Jordan Frank had a big steal to break the tie. I was real, real impressed with what he did tonight,” said Danville coach Doug Selvey. “We’ve talked about building our bench. He really stepped up today.”
The two big plays by Frank helped the Devils (8-1, 4-1) go on a 16-8 run to end the game and snatch away the victory. The start is the best that Danville has had since the 1977 MBC championship team started 7-1. The best start prior to that was 1937 when the Devils started 13-1 before finishing fourth in the state.
