FREDERICKTOWN — It was Licking County versus Knox County, and the former made it a clean sweep.
The Utica Redskins, who have had a hard-luck year, pulled off a pair on Mid-Buckeye Conference wins, knocking off host Fredericktown, 36-31, as well as Centerburg, 37-23, in Wednesday’s Mid-Buckeye Conference wrestling quad match.
The Freddies and the Trojans also lost to a dominant team from Northridge. Fredericktown was manhandled by the Vikings, 71-12. The Vikings then took care of the Trojans, 51-20.
“I knew (Northridge) was good,” said Fredericktown coach Jordan Cramer. “They were for real. I was hoping to keep it competitive. Not to be down on my guys but we’re extremely young and we’re low on numbers. Northridge has a full roster and a lot of experience so we just had to do our best and wrestle hard.”
The Freddies managed a pair of back-to-back pins against the Vikings. Cameron Snyder (113 pounds) of Fredericktown pinned Vikings’ junior Ryan Strong in 58.1 seconds of the second period. Carson Mills (120) picked up the other win for the Freddies, pinning Northridge’s Jacob McNamara at 1:51 of the second.
“We were getting shut out until that point,” said Cramer. “Northridge was beating us pretty handily. Even though we didn’t get anymore after that, the guys that wrestled afterward kept it close and competitive.”
