CENTERBURG — The Centerburg boys basketball team had the perfect game plan.
The Trojans dictated the tempo, played good, hard defense and made the key plays at key times Friday, knocking off Mid-Buckeye Conference leader Fredericktown in overtime, 37-32.
“This was a very good win. I’m real proud of the boys. They executed the game plan for 32-plus minutes and made the plays when they needed,” said Centerburg coach John Marhefka.
After two relatively quick baskets by Fredericktown early in the game, the Trojans’ game plan started kicking in. First, they were able to slow down the Freddies’ high-powered offense. Then, they got Freddie star Ryan Logan in foul trouble. Logan, who came into the game averaging almost 23 points a game, played just six minutes of the first half.
“I think Centerburg did a fantastic job keeping our guys in front of them. They were able to body-up without fouling. Give credit to their defense and coaching staff,” said Fredericktown coach Mark Delaney. “Then, Ryan picked up two quick fouls as did Michael Miller. Losing those two guys hurt.”
