GALION — Ohio high school wrestling began a new chapter on Wednesday evening, when area teams squared off in the first OHSAA regional quarterfinal duals at the old Northmor High School gymnasium.
The Fredericktown Freddies edged Johnstown, 30-28, but then lost to No. 1 seeded Northmor, 57-11. Earlier in the evening North Union dropped Danville by a score of 42-36.
“We were able to pull out a nice victory against Johnstown,” said Fredericktown coach Jordan Kramer. “Last time we wrestled them, we had three guys out and they ended up winning. This time, I know that they had a couple of their big boys out, they could have made a difference right there. That’s what happens — the luck of the draw.”
Fredericktown’s 120- pound Carson Mills got a pin in 3:31 against Northmor’s James Ross. Earlier in the evening, Mills defeated Johnstown’s Hayden Bullard, 8-6. After getting a forfeit against Johnstown, Mills’ teammate, Javier Cornell (108), took a technical fall over Northmor’s Dylan Jenkins.
