SPARTA — As a team filled with youth, the Highland Scots are still learning the ropes.
The boys basketball team can put together good scoring runs and is learning to compete with any opponent.
But, so far this season, it seems something usually gets in the way of a victory.
On Thursday, the Scots gave up a 14-0 run to the River Valley Vikings, but played hard until giving up the game-winning layup with 4.4 seconds left. In the end, River Valley had a 36-34 victory at Highland. And the Scots were left trying to digest another defeat.
“We let them back in it, and that hurts,” said Highland head coach Mike Hoyng. “But, we didn’t hang our heads. We fought through that adversity, and we had a chance. And that’s all you can ask for.”
