HOWARD — The East Knox Bulldogs faced impossible odds on Monday.
Following a blowout loss to rival Danville on Saturday, a depleted East Knox squad was asked to face one of the top teams in the Central District in the Maysville Panthers. The result could be predicted: A 74-23 defeat.
What wasn’t predicted was the fast start of the Bulldogs.
East Knox held the lead for virtually the entire first period. The Panthers, who have lost just one game all year and have beaten the likes of Tri-Valley and Dublin Scioto, found themselves trying to keep up with an East Knox team missing two point guards.
“We were able to execute against a very good defense,” said East Knox head coach Jeremy Hubbard. “We did a nice job keeping our composure. We were able to get our shots and get some offensive rebounds, which helped us a lot. ... We’re running with no practice, so we didn’t have time to work on our game plan, offensively.”
