FREDERICKTOWN — It looked like the Fredericktown Freddies were going to pull out their biggest win of the year. But they just couldn’t close the deal.
The Johnstown Johnnies closed Thursday’s Mid-Buckeye Conference clash with a 13-2 run, taking advantage of Fredericktown’s mishandling of the ball to pull out a 44-39 victory.
“The first part of the fourth quarter, we came out and really built a nice lead,” said Fredericktown coach Wes Elfritz. “Give Johnstown credit. They put the heat on and we kind of wilted under that pressure. We just have to learn to win games that are tight like this. In the end, we fell short.”
The Freddies (15-4, 8-4 MBC) were 3-for-10 from the line in the final quarter, including 1-for-5 down the stretch. Johnstown hit five of their final eight foul shots.
