DANVILLE — For a high school basketball player, 1,000 points is the ultimate goal. To reach it in a win over your archrival is priceless.
Danville’s Bryce Staats got to do just that Friday, breaking the barrier and leading his Blue Devils to a 72-64 Mid-Buckeye Conference victory over visiting East Knox.
“It feels pretty good,” said Staats. “It’s always nice to do it against your rival in front of a big crowd. It was nice to see everyone come out. It was pretty neat to meet the guys you’re chasing.”
Staats passed the mark midway through the second period, finishing the game with 25 points to lead all scorers. He became the fifth player in Danville history to break the 1,000-point barrier and now has 1,014. Richard Mavis is first with 1,276 points, followed by Glen Turney (1,250), Larry Cline (1,058) and Dave Elliott (1,012).
