HILLIARD — There was a little redemption in Saturday’s Day 2 of the Division I Central District wrestling tournament at Hilliard Darby High School.
Mount Vernon’s Dakota Riley earned his long-awaited district title, pinning Greg Brusco of Delaware Hayes at the finals in the 113-pound weight class.
Riley, Lane Hinkle and Matthew Lybarger finished in the Top 4 of their respective classes, allowing all three to advance to to the state championships at The Ohio State University later this week.
“It’s a good day overall,” Mount Vernon head coach John Brown told the News on Saturday. “We got three people through. We’d like to get more. But they all wrestled solid and gave great effort.”
Riley’s district championship came against a rival he had already faced earlier in the year. In that match, Riley had to save his energy for a tournament the following day, yet he still managed to eek out a victory on points. This time around, there was no holding back.
