COLUMBUS — The season is over for Mount Vernon Yellow Jacket wrestlers Matthew Lybarger and Lane Hinkle.
The 195- and 132-pounders, respectively, lost their second matches of the state tournament during Friday morning’s session and were eliminated.
Hinkle (38-10), who on Thursday became the first Mount Vernon freshman to win a match at state, struggled out of the gate Friday morning. He failed to gain any momentum in the championship quarterfinal match against Archbishop Moeller’s Andrew Mendel, falling 3-0. Later, in the consolation quarterfinals, he began strong againt Gahanna Lincoln’s Kasee McDougle but lost the lead. Frantically attempting to gain some points and momentum, he finally appeared to get a reversal but the official ruled them out of bounds. Eventually, McDougle cradled Hinkle and pinned him with 0:16 left in the second period.
Hinkle was not available for comment after the match.
