MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon News All-Star Senior Showcase is one last chance for area seniors to shine.

Monday at Mount Vernon, many of the area girls selected for the game shined brightly. But, it was the Centerburg stars that shined the brightest.

Stacy Fielding, Lindsey Daniels and Mikaela Weldy all had strong games, helping the Senior Stars grab a 68-63 victory over the All-Stars.

“I came out and fought like I always do. Just really try to encourage my teammates, try to get them the ball and really be a team player,” said Fielding, who was named Most Valuable Player of the game after scoring 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

The teams battled for half of the first 20 minutes before the Senior Stars were able to take control. A 12-3 run, led by those Centerburg seniors, put the Senior Stars in the driver’s seat in the first half as they led 42-29 at intermission.

But, as all good players and teams do, the All-Stars made a comeback in the second half. The All-Stars got rolling behind the play of several Fredericktown and East Knox stars, and closed the gap.

Kali Krownapple of East Knox helped spark that run, as she scored 13 points during the game.
