MOUNT VERNON — One of the biggest casualties in the last round of budget cuts is getting a reprieve, thanks to a grassroots effort by Mount Vernon residents.
A donation made to Mount Vernon High School has allowed the freshman baseball team to return to the field, months after it was slashed by the school board.
The donation, estimated to be $2,000, will pay for the team’s coach. The other expenses will be paid for from other sources, most notably the $300 pay-to-play fee per athlete.
