MOUNT VERNON — About the only thing that Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets softball coach Mike Marcum can be sure about, for now, is that the season starts on April 6.

Otherwise, the Jackets are swimming in a sea of uncertainty. Marcum’s graduation-depleted roster is loaded with question marks. Tuesday’s scrimmage, which may have answered a few of those questions, was canceled because of frigid weather that would hardly remind anyone that softball season is upon us.

“Practice has been hit-and-miss,” said Marcum. “We’ve been inside all pre-season. Last year, the weather felt like we were in Florida.”

Nine seniors from last year’s team are gone. Instead of reloading, Marcum will have to start over.
