MOUNT VERNON — The Dublin Coffman Rocks tried to make it interesting near the end of Monday’s boys volleyball match.
Coffman went on a 9-2 run late in the third set to even the score at 24. However, the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets scored the final two points to earn another three-set sweep at The Hive, 25-15, 25-15, 26-24.
“Our passes are coming together as a team,” said sophomore Luke Earnest. “Good passes, good sets, good hits. That’s what volleyball is. That’s how we’ve come together as a team.”
The Jackets (4-1) showed mistakes in that third set that they hadn’t shown all season. There were spikes that went long and passes that went in the net. Fortunately for Mount Vernon, those mistakes didn’t begin until the team had a comfortable 20-12 lead.
Matt McManaway ended Coffman’s run with a hard spike to make the score 25-24. A net violation on the next point ended the night for the Rocks.
