MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon boys volleyball team continues to look for answers.
The Yellow Jackets dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday, falling to Hilliard Davidson in five sets, 16-25, 20-25, 26-24, 27-25, 15-7, before losing to Walsh Jesuit in four, 25-13, 21-25, 25-14, 25-13.
“I have no idea,” said Mount Vernon head coach Alan Cassell. “I asked my assistants to talk to my boys in the lunchroom (between matches) and ask if I’m doing something wrong. I don’t know. How do you coach energy and enthusiasm?”
The Warriors, who appeared in the Division II State Final Four along with Mount Vernon, showed that they’re ready for a return trip. They came out on fire from the first set, keeping their mistakes to a minimum and overwhelming the Jackets with powerful shots from the net.
