MOUNT VERNON — It seems like every time Dan Tharp steps up to serve, the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets go on a scoring run.

Actually, it isn’t always the case. But when Mount Vernon starts a run, usually it’s the senior with the orange bandana on the baseline.

“I just serve hard every time,” said Tharp. “I try to place them most of the time. Some get away, occasionally. But I practice my serve a lot.”

Tharp and his team had another such run on Thursday, scoring 10 unanswered points in the third set to lock up a 25-11, 25-15, 25-11 sweep of Delaware Hayes at The Hive.

Tharp finished with a team-high four aces as well as four kills. Levi Rhoades led the Jackets with 12 kills to go along with two blocks.

“We have a good rotation with Levi (Rhoades) in the front row. We just play solid,” said Tharp.
