PICKERINGTON — The Centerburg Trojans were in uncharted waters.

On Monday, the Trojans played their first Division III district semifinal softball game at Pickerington North High School. But, if there were nerves, the Trojans didn’t show it.

Instead, they engaged in a defensive showdown with No. 6 seed West Jefferson, matching the Roughriders pitch for pitch. Although the season came to an end for Centerburg, the 1-0 loss reflected the grit with which they played not just on Monday, but over the entire season.

“The one thing about these kids: Anyone who has watched these girls, knows that they will fight. They will not give up,” said Centerburg head coach Gary Lambert.
