COLUMBUS — Sarah Fowler barely broke a sweat.
On Saturday, the Fredericktown senior took on the best in the Central District in the 3,200-meter run. She owned a 50-yard lead one-quarter of the way in, lapped the last-place runner twice and finished 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
All in a day’s work.
Fowler’s performance in the Division III track and field district finals at Hamilton Township High School has been typical for her. Fowler dominated the event at the Fredericktown Invitational, the Mount Vernon News SpecTRACKular and the Mid-Buckeye Conference Championships. Saturday’s district run (11:21.19) was merely a warm-up.
“I just wanted to get a good workout,” said Fowler. “I wanted to run 11:30 to break the meet record. Then I’ll get to regionals and try to qualify for state.”
Fredericktown finished sixth among girls at the meet, scoring 57 points. Centerburg came in 14th with 13 points. Danville was tied for 19th, while East Knox tied for 21st.
