MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon 11U All-Star team is down to its final strike.

Sterling pitching performances, as well as outstanding hitting from Logan Fox and Addy Black, gave Guernsey County a 7-2 victory over the MV All-Stars at Phillips Park on Monday night.

“We played a very good team tonight,” All-Stars head coach Bob Tiell said. “They were sound in the field and put the ball in play. They capitalized in those two areas.”

With the loss, the All-Stars will play in the District 5 losers’ bracket final against Southwest Licking today at 5:30 p.m., also at Phillips Park.

Mount Vernon managed to score only two runs, but Tiell believes it was a matter of bad luck.

“I thought we hit the ball pretty well tonight,” Tiell said. “For the most part, we hit the ball right at them and they made the plays they needed to.”
