These are just some of the little things we have to put up with in order to advance our streets! I personally stay away from this area during the busiest time of the day.

I wish the Mt Vernon Police would patrol some of the main street area where motorists are speeding in the right hand lane towards the viaduct only to cut left in front of every one. The right hand lane should be closed much further back. I now refuse to go through the middle of Mt Vernon because of this headache.

Did the city use economic stimulus money to fix this street? If we did, this money was supposed to be used for creating jobs to get out of the recession. When I drive on this street, I only see about 8 people working on it. The contractors should hire more people.

They have tried to repair brick streets in the past without success.Did we lose that technology,our just get lazy.
If they had a Big truck Bi-pass around town instead of thru town,they might last longer.

I don’t understand, Mt Vernon is supposed to be a historical city, and part of that is due to the brick streets. How long have they lasted without having to be repaired, in comparison to how long does it take for potholes to appear in the asphalt? Yes the upfront expense may have been slightly more, but in the long run I think it would have been worth it. How may times will they have to repave or pot hole patch the new pavement on the roads?? I for one (who grew up in Mt Vernon on a brick street), am going to miss them!!!

The cost of this project is insane. The brick streets are nice but cost more that I would be willing to pay. Even if brick only cost 10% more than asphalt, and it may be much more than that, That is over 100,000 that could be used for other projects around town. Brick streets are a huge waste of taxpayer money.

All I can say is all the detours and construction will be well worth it. Gay street was in need of repair really bad.
