Technology invasion a concern at schools

MOUNT VERNON — Last week Centerburg school officials learned of a breach into the high school’s computer system by a senior student. That technology invasion resulted in students cheating on some tests for a required social studies class and that resulted in the school board canceling graduation exercises. If there is a silver lining to the episode, it might be the increased focus on instructional technology and the related security measures needed in the ever-more-connected world in which we live.

    “technology guru”???

every guru knows that passwords alone are not enough to keep hackers at bay… ESPECIALLY kids!

I work in technology, and EVERY employer i have had has vpn access… usually tied to a softkey/token (a number that changes every 60 seconds) that will add another level of security… the password alone is not enough to gain access.

I understand that they want it to be easy for the staff to use, but seriously how hard is it to put a keyfob on your key chain to use when you need to access the system outside of the network like from the http://www...

by not implementing this fairly cheap level of security and the fact that kids are curious guarantees that more breaches are eminent…

so from my point of view… this is NO surprise!!!

    score one for the kids!
