Economy will affect city next year
MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis reports that the city budget is not forcing the administration to ask for a percentage reduction in the budgets of city offices — at least not so far.

But why involve the police dept to cut down on speeding let the meter maid of mt vernon stand there with a radar gun and a hot pen to write tickets with
For some reason, Mount Vernon never was able to direct though traffis around the city as Fredericktown did. This unfortunately has cuase a delema that will never be retified. So, the traffic problem will continue to exist and the mayor has done his best to take care of it.
Re: “Something we’ve talked about is that people might want to drive faster on the smooth roadway when the project is completed,” Mavis said. “We talked to the police department and we may issue some tickets if the speed gets out of hand.”
Really smart, Mount Vernon. Remove one of the traffic calming cues (brick pavers) that slowed traffic and only after it’s nearly complete come to the realization that hey, those bricks at least kept traffic slower. If you want traffic to go slow, build the road so it will: narrow lanes, bumpouts for crosswalks, large sidewalks, and buildings close to the road. It’s no wonder places like Coshocton Avenue see frequent speeding; the road is wide, it’s unfriendly to pedestrians, and the buildings are set entirely too far back from the road. It’s psychology of the road – build it to calm traffic and it will keep traffic calm; build it like a drag race strip and you’ll get drag races.
