Library cuts to be restored
MOUNT VERNON — Knox County voters gave the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County a shot in the arm Tuesday by passing the library levy by a sizable margin. Unofficial results were 8,665 for and 6,244 against. What this means for the library is that much of what was cut because of a sizable reduction in its state funding will be restored.

I know people get upset about paying for taxes regarding srvices they don’t use, but remember every group eventually will probably need a levy eventually. As I recall a Station Break levy was passed not too long ago on behalf of senior citizens. We all need to come togethor to help each other. If we all only voted for services we actually use nothing would probably pass.
And lastly, usually when a community can’t seem to pass levies the housing values usually plummet. I’m sure the folks who don’t use the library may still want to sell their house for a fair amount in the future.
I also would hope those in the community that voted in the library also voted for the library levy.
Well… yet another tax increase for people who do not use the library, what about elderly who barely can afford their homes or their meds as it is? I am sick of paying for in ,my opinion, unneccesary costs in this economy.
Good news for a nice group of people. I miss them.
