Freshwater's science classroom revisited

MOUNT VERNON — Following testimony by retired teacher Jim Stockdale, John Freshwater took the stand on his own behalf when his contract termination hearing resumed on Tuesday.

    I went to the creationist site that has brief remarks posted.
    Interesting that the site chose as a first line in every post that Freshwater was
    fired for having a Bible on his desk. As if that is “the issue”.

    The issues are that he burned a cross on a student’s arm, gave extra credit for
    viewing a creationist film, taught almost daily creationism in his class and made
    science out to be evil. For a lot of years.

    The cross burning allowed the cowardly administrators to at last get rid of this
    faux science teacher. Now, he and his attorney are wasting hundreds of thousands of the
    taxpayers money. They know they are wrong. They know he was fired for just cause.

    That’s what Mr. Freshwater and his attorney are doing with this hearing—responding to the allegations. If the investigation had been done properly by H.R. On Call there might not have been a need for a hearing. The contract required the investigators to give Mr. Freshwater a chance to give a comprehensive written response to the complaints—before the investigation was completed.

    A “letter to the editor” I wrote in July points out what the contracts states: “The contract states that all witnesses identified by the teacher will be interviewed, written statements will be obtained from the witnesses if possible and the teacher will be given the opportunity to give a comprehensive written response to the complaint being made against him

    REALLY!! You dont think he has had enough time to do this in this long drawn out waste of money proceeding, time and time again???

    Cfacts has some additional information on this story: “Mr. Freshwater went on to tell how he was not given due process according to the contract, […] HR On-Call they scheduled a second [interview] in which he would be able to give more details/information about the accusations, but it was canceled and the investigation was concluded without his knowledge (Mr. Freshwater found out in the newspaper, not from the school or investigators).”

    Freshwater gets away with this because he shares a small town ‘fear the lord’ mentality of many of the other parents in Mount Vernon. It’s shameful that he gets to drain the community of funds as we defend against his behavior, which is obviously against public education rules and standards.
